Roasting company McCullagh Coffee has launched a new pack for its Ecoverde Coffee brand, using Innovia Films’ cellulose-based NatureFlex.
The new compostable pack for the Rainforest Alliance Certified-brand has been made using transparent, heat-sealable NatureFlex NE, which by using a videojet machine has been surface printed.

McCullagh Coffee sales and marketing vice president Warren Emblidge III, commenting on the new film, said: "We were looking for a partner with a commitment to developing cutting edge compostable packaging to support our sustainability initiatives and Innovia was a great match."
According to Innovia, NatureFlex films offer advantages for packing and converting, and their renewable biobased content is 95% by weight of material according to ASTM D6866 requirements.
The advantages offered by the film include inherent deadfold and anti-static properties, increased gloss and resistance to grease and oil, sturdy barrier to gases, aromas and mineral oils and a heat-seal range.
NatureFlex films are said to have been certified to meet the American ASTM D6400, European EN13432 and Australian AS4736 standards for compostable packaging.

Innovia Films Americas account executive Christopher Tom said the company recommends that coffee producers use high barrier tri-laminate type structures for extended shelf lives.
