US-based coffee and tea producer Rogers Family has unveiled OneCup BIO. a new single-serve 97% biodegradable coffee product designed to address waste challenges globally.
OneCup BIO is degradable even in an anaerobic environment where there is no sunlight or air. It does not releasing any measurable toxic residue even if exposed to moisture.
It is made from a bio-based material sourced from renewable natural resources including vegetable oil, various plant starches and tree by-products.
Rogers Family is now focusing on converting the product’s mesh filter, the only non-biodegradable part of the new product.
Rogers Family president Jon Rogers said that the company wanted to reduce its environmental footprint by developing a new product that requires 30 to 35% less packaging compared to other single-serve coffees.
"We believe we hit a home run with our goals regarding taste and value based on great consumer response to OneCup," he said.
