UK-based packaging firm Sirane has introduced a new packaging machine to bag pre-roasted chicken using nylon roasting bags.

The Sira-Cook PA allows meat, fish and poultry to be packed, shipped, retailed and cooked in the same package.

The machine has the capacity to pack 40 birds a minute for sealing or to have additional ingredients added such as herbs, sauce or spices. The bag is then tied or heat-sealed ready for transportation in a bag that the customer can put into the oven to cook.

Cooking poultry in a bag cuts down on cooking times, stops meat drying out and is beneficial for retailers. Food is cooked without the need for a baking tray, keeping the oven clean.

The nylon bag absorbs fat that is released during cooking, ensuring crisp, clean food. It can be used for chickens, turkeys and large joints of meat such as whole salmon. The bags are pierced at the top by the customer before cooking.

Sirane food packaging sales director Jeremy Haydn-Davies said: "Nylon is the best material on the market for roasting bags, and this is a top-quality packaging solution."
