The packaging is aimed at helping the company meet recycled content rules being introduced in New Jersey, California and other states developing similar measures.

According to PureCycle, this is the first food-contact grocery container that uses PureFive resin to enter full commercial production.

The PureFive resin is made through a dissolution recycling process designed to remove colours, odours, additives and other contaminants that can weaken conventional recycled plastic.

The material is certified by GreenCircle for recycled content and meets Food and Drug Administration food contact standards for a broad range of applications.

The companies said rigid plastic tubs and lids are widely used by Cleveland Kitchen and other brand owners in food, personal care and household goods, while packaging supply chains are facing increasing pressure to show PCR content.

IPL Schoeller operates 26 manufacturing sites in North America, Europe and the UK following the July 2025 merger of IPL Global and Schoeller Allibert.

The two companies said they intend to widen the partnership by using PureFive resin in other products within IPL Schoeller’s portfolio.

PureCycle PureFive resin recently received conditional approval from the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection, allowing it to qualify as “recycled content” under the state’s law.

PureCycle market, application and product development senior director Pete Dias said: “The packaging industry’s challenge has always been delivering recycled content without sacrificing food safety or shelf performance.

“PureFive resin removes that trade-off entirely. Food safety, regulatory compliance, performance and environmental responsibility no longer have to compete with one another. This launch with Cleveland Kitchen and IPL Schoeller proves the model at commercial scale.”
