UK-based DS Smith Plastics has invested in its injection moulding plant in Bilzen-Belgium.

As part of the €2.6m investment, four new production lines have been added to the facility.

The newly installed injection moulding machines, which include in-mould labelling robots, are 40% more energy-efficient than before.

In addition, a new internal raw materials supply system and a new plant layout have been implemented as part of the recent investment.

Increasing the plant’s production capacity by around 50%, the recently made investment has also enabled DS Smith Plastics to expand its presence in the injection moulding products market.

Furthermore, the investment has created eight new jobs at the Bilzen plant.

DS Smith Plastics injection moulding business segment managing director Paul Baeyens said: “As a specialist in beverage crates and pallets, we increased our capacity in anticipation of expected customer and market growth.

"This is why we are investing in the newest generation of injection moulding machines. The investments will allow us to grow even further in other products for markets such as pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, agriculture etc.

“We are committed to giving our customers the best possible service, and in order to do so, it is crucial that we are equipped with the right capacity and the latest technology.

The company currently has injection moulding plants in Poland, Spain and Croatia, which serve customers in Europe, Africa, Asia, North America and South America.
