Compack Cartons, a subsidiary of Port Glasgow-based McLaren Packaging, has announced the opening of its new packaging operation facility in Livingston, West Lothian, Scotland.
This facility was officially opened by Scotland’s Wellbeing Economy, Fair Work and Energy secretary Neil Gray on 17 May.

The new facility has been set up utilising the investment of approximately £13.5m from McLaren Packaging.
Gray said: “Not only will this project create 26 new skilled jobs, through the company’s sustainable practices, it will help us in our aim to reach net-zero by 2045 and create a well-being economy.”
Compack specialises in designing and producing carton packaging for use in various premium and luxury brands from different sectors, including in the food and drink, pharmaceutical and medical devices industries.

By GlobalDataCompack previously performed all its operations from a facility in the Houston Industrial Estate within its 8,000ft² premises.
However, after its acquisition by paper-based packaging manufacturer McLaren in 2017, the company’s workforce doubled, resulting in a four times higher turnover.
McLaren’s investment helped in upgrading Compack’s Houston Industrial Estate site along with the acquisition and renovation of an existing 66,000ft² unit and investment in a new facility and therefore its print, foil, embossing and finishing technologies.
Furthermore, this new unit comes with an additional storage area that can store up to 1,200 pallets on-site.
Compack informed that this investment received Scottish Enterprise’s grant support, which is a non-departmental body of the Scottish government.
Some major facility upgrades include the installation of 188kW Solar PV, heat recovery technology and a replacement insulated roof.
McLaren Packaging managing director Donald McLaren said: “The investment in Compack demonstrates the importance of our Livingston operation and our long-term commitment to the future of premium and luxury packaging produced in Scotland.
“We foresee significant opportunity for locally sourced packaging and this expansion will allow us to offer a comprehensive portfolio of eco-conscious packs to the market. There is considerable client interest for this proposition and the venture will enable us to deliver on this opportunity.”
