Film and sheet extrusion machinery firm Macro Engineering & Technology (Canada) has installed a nine-layer system with die design for a customer in Europe.

The 1.8m-wide line with nine extruders is capable of producing various barrier structures to make film and bags, while minimising waste and maximising energy efficiency.

With a capacity to handle film thicknesses ranging from 20um to 300um, the winding system can also run 18-layer structures.

The machine with automatic shaft & roll handling, automatic shaft extraction and zero fold-back roll starts, can auto-cut and transfer in both directions.

This can process various materials, including barrier resins such as polyamide, EVOH and PETg.

The Macro proprietary control system has a ‘ReadyRun’ option to store and recall recipes, thereby reducing changeover time.

The ‘Green Energy’ feature leads to optimisation of energy consumption during the heat and cool process, with an option to view energy consumption in real-time.

Earlier this year, the company launched a new extrusion line to produce polylactic acid (PLA) foam. It is also working on developing new technologies for use with this extrusion line to expand the application range of foamed PLA.

Macro Engineering & Technology supplies barrier film lines and custom engineered extrusion systems for food packaging, medical, and industrial sectors.

Macro makes blown, cast and biaxially oriented coextrusion lines for multilayer films of up to 11 layers.

The firm provides sheet extrusion lines for speciality applications, in addition to extrusion coating, laminating and foam extrusion lines.
