A recently filed patent (Publication Number: US20230310694A1) describes an adhesive composition that includes an adhesive and microparticles dispersed within it. The microparticles consist of a matrix material and at least one active agent, with the active agent being hydrophilic. The matrix material can be selected from a group of fillers, preservatives, and sorbents. The adhesive itself can be chosen from a group of acrylic adhesives, rubber adhesives, silicone adhesives, polyurethane adhesives, or combinations thereof.

The adhesive can be either a solvent-based adhesive or a hot melt adhesive. The microparticles have an average span ranging from about 5 microns to about 50 microns. The active agent in the microparticles can be a pain reducing agent, analgesic and anti-inflammatory agent, corticosteroid, antibiotic, antimicrobial agent, antifungal agent, debriding agent, antihistamine, antiepileptic, coronary vasodilator, dermatological agent, ancillary drug, or combinations thereof.

For pain reduction, the active agent can include benzocaine, procaine hydrochloride, tetracaine, lidocaine, and other similar agents. Analgesic and anti-inflammatory agents can include ibuprofen, naproxen, and other similar substances. Corticosteroids like hydrocortisone and betamethasone dipropionate can also be used. Antibiotics, antimicrobial agents, antifungal agents, debriding agents, antihistamines, antiepileptics, coronary vasodilators, dermatological agents, and ancillary drugs can also be incorporated into the adhesive composition.

The filler in the composition can be plant cellulose, dibasic calcium phosphate, vegetable fats and oils, sugar fillers, calcium carbonate, magnesium stearate, or combinations thereof. Preservatives can include antioxidants, amino acid preservatives, citric acid, sodium citrate, synthetic preservatives, or combinations thereof. Additionally, the adhesive composition may also contain a binder.

This patent application describes an adhesive composition that incorporates microparticles with various active agents, allowing for targeted delivery of therapeutic substances. The composition can be used in medical applications where controlled release of active agents is desired, such as wound dressings or transdermal patches. The wide range of active agents and the ability to customize the composition make it a versatile option for various therapeutic purposes.
