Cascades has been granted a patent for a web material dispenser that allows for one-handed operation to replace rolls of web material and change positions of the mandrels within the dispenser. The dispenser includes a housing, a roll support assembly, and mandrels to support the rolls. The positions of the mandrels can be switched by pivoting the roll support arm and linkage arm. The patent also includes a method for switching positions of rolls in the dispenser. GlobalData’s report on Cascades gives a 360-degree view of the company including its patenting strategy. A recently granted patent (Publication Number: US11737614B2) describes a web material dispenser with improved functionality and ease of use. The dispenser includes a housing that can accommodate two rolls of web material. The housing features a back-wall member and an opening for dispensing the web material.

The dispenser also includes a roll support assembly that is mounted to the housing and can be configured in different positions for roll changing and dispensing. The roll support assembly consists of a roll support arm with two ends. In the roll changing position, at least one end of the support arm is spaced-apart from the back-wall member, while in the dispensing position, both ends are closer to the back-wall member. The dispensing position can be further divided into a first position where one end is located above the other end, and a second position where the positions are reversed.

Each end of the roll support arm is equipped with a mandrel for supporting a roll of web material. Additionally, the roll support assembly includes a linkage arm that is pivotally mounted to the housing. The linkage arm has two attachment locations, with one being spaced-apart from the back-wall member in the roll changing position and closer to the back-wall member in the dispensing position. The roll support arm is pivotally mounted to the linkage arm at the second attachment location, with the ends of the roll support arm located on opposite sides of this connection.

The patent also describes the configuration of the linkage arm and its relationship with the back-wall member. In the dispensing position, the linkage arm forms a first angle with the backing plane defined by the back-wall member. In the roll changing position, the linkage arm forms a second angle with the backing plane, which is greater than the first angle. The second attachment location of the linkage arm is fixed, while the first attachment location defines a pivot axis for the linkage arm. The roll support arm also has a pivot axis, and when the dispenser is in use, the pivot axis of the linkage arm is located above the pivot axis of the roll support arm.

The housing of the web material dispenser includes a cover member that can be moved between a closed position and an open position. In the closed position, the mandrels are partially enclosed within the housing, while in the open position, both the linkage arm and the roll support arm can be pivoted for roll replacement or repositioning. When the cover member is closed and the rolls are supported on the mandrels, a portion of each roll is accessible through the opening of the housing.

Overall, this patent describes a web material dispenser with a unique roll support assembly and improved functionality for roll changing and dispensing. The design allows for easy access to the rolls and efficient operation of the dispenser.
