According to GlobalData’s company profile on Oji, Incontinence monitoring sensors was a key innovation area identified from patents. Oji's grant share as of September 2023 was 10%. Grant share is based on the ratio of number of grants to total number of patents.

A recently filed patent (Publication Number: US20230271444A1) describes a heat-sensitive recording material with specific characteristics. The material consists of an undercoat layer on a support surface and a heat-sensitive recording layer on top. The heat-sensitive recording layer contains a leuco dye and a coloring agent, while the undercoat layer contains hollow particles and a binding resin.

The hollow particles in the undercoat layer have specific size and volume characteristics. The maximum particle diameter (D100) of the hollow particles is between 10 to 30 µm, and the particle diameter (D50) at cumulative 50 volume % is between 4.0 to 15 µm. The ratio of D100/D50 is between 1.8 to 3.0. Additionally, the volume percentage of hollow particles with particle diameters of 2.0 µm or less is 1% or less.

The content of the hollow particles in the undercoat layer is between 5 to 40 mass % of the total solid content. The hollowness of the hollow particles is between 80 to 98%. The coating amount of the undercoat layer after drying is between 2.0 to 10 g/m2.

The coloring agent in the heat-sensitive recording layer can include 4-hydroxy-4'-n-propoxydiphenylsulfone or N-[2-(3-phenylureido)phenyl]benzenesulfonamide.

The undercoat layer may also contain an inorganic pigment, with an oil absorption of 90 ml/100 g or more. The content of the inorganic pigment in the undercoat layer is between 20 to 70 mass % of the total solid content, preferably between 40 to 60 mass %. Fired kaolin and/or silica can be used as the inorganic pigment.

The binding resin in the undercoat layer can be a latex, with a glass transition temperature of -10°C or lower, or even -30°C or lower. At least a styrene-butadiene-based latex can be used as the binding resin.

These specific characteristics of the heat-sensitive recording material described in the patent aim to improve the performance and quality of heat-sensitive recording materials used in various applications.
