Acorn Paper has announced it will launch a new division that will focus on packaging for the cannabis and cannabis-related products industry.

Acorn, a US supplier of packaging, janitorial and sanitary products, has said that its new division will be branded Acorn Paper Cannabis Packaging (APCP) and will aim at serving the recently-legalised cannabis industry.

In practical terms, this will mean providing paper, packaging, janitorial and sanitation, custom promotional products and services, addressing the entire supply chain to manufacturers, growers, distributors and consumer-facing retails products.

Acorn appointed Brad Davis as the product manager and will rely on him to work with sellers in the company’s sales organisation. APCP will initially focus on the West Coast but will attempt to expand its business nation-wide and also develop e-commerce solutions in the coming year.

David Weissberg, CEO and President of Acorn, said: “We recognise the tremendous opportunity that the cannabis industry presents to our company. This will be a $70 billion industry in just a few years, and Brad Davis is the perfectly positioned executive to lead our initiatives in the space.”

Davis said he is: “Proud to represent one of the largest privately held packaging companies on the west coast. With their long history of success and vertical focus in areas from agriculture to wine, addressing the needs of the entire cannabis supply chain is a natural addition to the Acorn family.”

The plan comes shortly after the National Association of Cannabis Businesses (NACB), a self-regulatory organisation, called for the standardisation of packaging and labelling in the cannabis industry.

The NCAB recently released its own national set of regulations that aims at helping consumers while proving the industry’s ethics and responsibility to regulators, financial institutions and the public.
