BiOrigin Specialty Products (BSP), a provider of sustainable speciality papers in North America, has introduced a new oil- and grease-resistant (OGR) paper, BioGuard, aimed at enhancing foodservice packaging.
This paper is designed to prevent oil and grease from seeping through food wrappers and bags, utilising a 100% food-safe solution.
The launch of BioGuard is expected to improve operational efficiencies for converters of OGR paper.
In addition to its leakproof capabilities, the new paper offers advancements in reducing visual staining compared to existing products in the market.
The food-safe characteristics of BioGuard also ensure that it remains recyclable, according to the company.
Production of the BioGuard paper will take place in the US, leveraging BSP’s Creative Solutions Network, which comprises multiple mills across the US and Canada.

By GlobalDataBiOrigin Specialty Products president and CEO Wade Kemnitz said: “We couldn’t be more excited to launch this innovative speciality paper for foodservice customers.
“The new food-safe formula greatly improves converting efficiency by eliminating the paper curling and cracking issues that occurs with other OGR solutions on the market today.
“Our BioGuard OGR paper is another sustainable solution from BSP that will provide an eco-friendly option for foodservice companies everywhere.”
BSP manufactures parent rolls for various sectors, including foodservice, retail, medical, and industrial.
The company operates a network of ten paper machines and employs 100 Master Papermakers within its workforce of 600.
In October 2024, BSP enhanced its rewinding capabilities for the food packaging industry by installing a new Elite Cameron CS800 slitter rewinder at its Michigan mill, nearly doubling its capacity.
The CS800 machine features advanced technology, including a shaftless pick-up unwind and photosensor light curtains, improving efficiency and safety.
