Novolex brand Eco-Products has expanded its portfolio with the launch of moulded fibre plates and containers under the Vanguard brand.

Designed for the foodservice industry, the Vanguard line of plates and containers are manufactured using sugarcane. They are suitable for hot and cold applications, and are claimed to be resistant to water and grease.

The company has conducted more than one year of testing to create the new products. The Vanguard line will meet the Biodegradable Product Institute for compostability certification, which will be effective from 1 January 2020.

Eco-Products marketing director Sarah Martinez said: “Our goal has always been to provide a breadth of options for foodservice operators looking for environmentally preferable packaging. The Vanguard line of products is another proud addition to our offering.”

The company is currently testing an initial range of products that include a 10in round plate, a three-compartment 10in plate, a 9in single-compartment clamshell, and a three-compartment 9in clamshell. They are being made available in a limited release.

“We’re thrilled to offer our customers another choice in foodservice packaging, and we expect this innovative new line to be very popular and in high demand.”

Following the trial, Eco-Products plans to introduce bowls, as well as other sizes of plates and clamshells under the Vanguard brand.

In January, Eco-Products introduced new compostable cup lids to allow consumers to drink without any spills.

The company has also entered an agreement to join the new Compost Manufacturing Alliance (CMA) programme to assist composters in understanding the composability of each product during the same month.
