The bottle combines a paper outer with a thin plastic lining to keep the wine fresh and only weighs weighs 55g, which will reduce the transport costs.

The container’s carbon footprint is 10% of a glass bottle and is decomposable in only a few weeks, the company claims.

GreenBottle has been in talks with supermarkets and wine producers and plans to make it available in the UK as early as next year.

The packaging is based on the company’s paper milk bottle, which is celebrating its 100,000th sale since its launch earlier this year.
