Henkel is to invest $45m in its Salisbury facility in Rowan County, North Carolina, US, with new equipment and other upgrades on its agenda.

The German chemical and consumer goods company will install updated equipment along with making other improvements, which will include a new production line for UV Acrylic Adhesives used in tapes and labels within packaging and other industries.

The new production line will be the company’s first in North America to produce UV acrylic adhesives.

The 825 Cedar Springs Road facility produces adhesive products that are suitable for various industries such as packaging, electronics and consumer goods.

Henkel operations director Gary Hamblin said: “The Rowan EDC, City of Salisbury and Rowan County are valued business partners and this investment is a result of working together to generate opportunities that benefit the local economy and community and support our company’s vision for growth.

“We’re pleased to expand our Salisbury facility and to continue manufacturing innovative products with a talented workforce here in North Carolina.”

The company has also received the Economic Development Investment Grant from the City of Salisbury to support the expansion.

Rowan County also offered additional funding to Henkel in support of the project.

According to the company, both the grants offered by the city and the county will serve as performance-based incentives, helping the company to meet predetermined employment goals.

Salisbury mayor Al Heggins said: “It has been City Council’s pleasure to work with the Rowan EDC on this venture over the past few months.

“Our unanimous decisions to provide incentive grants towards this project demonstrates Council’s strong support of Henkel’s future growth in our community.

“The benefits that this type of economic development brings to Salisbury is significant – jobs, an increased tax base and industry. We’re honoured that Henkel has chosen to expand in our fair city.”

Earlier this month, the packaging and consumer goods division of Henkel launched EPIX technology to support sustainable packaging materials.
