British soft drink maker Lucozade Ribena Suntory is planning to redesign its Ribena bottles as part of its sustainability programme.

The company has made this move in an effort to ensure all its packaging is fully recyclable by 2025. It has selected industrial design agency Seymour Powell for the redesign project.

The company will initially focus on redesigning its 500ml Ribena bottle.

The manufacturer will also focus on reducing full-printed sleeves covering its bottles and increase their transparency as part of the redesign process.

This move will allow automated sorting machines in UK recycling centres to identify the packaging and recycle them back into plastic bottles.

Lucozade Ribena Suntory external affairs and sustainability director Michelle Norman said: “Lucozade Ribena Suntory takes its sustainability commitments very seriously and we are extremely proud to be announcing this packaging redesign to ensure our brands continue to be as sustainable as possible.

“Lucozade Ribena Suntory takes its sustainability commitments very seriously and we are extremely proud to be announcing this packaging redesign.”

“While we continue to make positive changes to our brands, it is important that wider changes are made by companies like us, government and industry to ensure recycling rates in the UK can continue to increase.”

Lucozade Ribena Suntory has already made sure that its new drinks such as Lucozade Sport Fitwater and Ribena Frusion are designed with a focus on bottle-to-bottle recycling.

The company also produced its Ribena Frusion drink in 100% recycled plastic (rPET) 420ml bottles.

In January, the company eliminated 325t of plastic from the production of its popular bottles on an annual basis.
