US-based developer of measurement technology Lumetrics has installed its online thickness measurement system for one of the largest food packaging companies in the US.

The OptiGauge system has been installed for multi-layer films that are used to package meat products and includes scanners as well as a software that measure a three-layer top film and bottom film making up the package.

Furthermore, it displays all the layer thicknesses immediately and allows packagers to reduce the amount of material used..

John Hart, Lumetrics president, said the company has worked with engineering company FACTS on this particular project to provide automated dye control of the film, and control the multiple operations that contribute to the package construction.
