Procter & Gamble (P&G) is set to launch new liquid laundry pack tubs with Child-Guard closures for its Tide PODS and Gain Flings products.

Developed after three years of research, the Child-Guard tub follows a series of product developments, consumer education initiatives and packaging upgrades to eliminate accidents related to P&G’s liquid laundry packs.

Designed to provide a stronger layer of protection, the new closure will require the user to squeeze both sides of the lid and twist at the same time to open.

P&G Fabric Care North America vice-president Sundar Raman said: “Since last year’s launch of the innovative Child-Guard bag for liquid laundry packs, we’ve been working hard to launch this same technology for our tubs.

“Knowing that access is a key factor in accidental exposures, we’ve made the new Child-Guard tub easy to close, but harder to open so parents and caregivers can both conveniently and safely store the product, further driving down accidents.

“With this key change, child-resistant packaging will now be available for all of our laundry pack products.”

The company previously introduced bags with a Child-Guard zipper under its ongoing efforts to re-package liquid laundry packs and reduce related accidents.

"We’ve made the new Child-Guard tub easy to close, but harder to open so parents and caregivers can conveniently and safely store the product."

It was also associated with the development of a voluntary industry standard that set guidelines for manufacturers for laundry pack design and packaging.

P&G claimed that the company's efforts to increase awareness of child-resistant packaging has reduced accidents involving its liquid laundry packs by nearly 39%.

The company will continue its education campaign through multiple mediums concerning the availability of its new Child-Guard tub.

The new tubs are expected to reach stores soon and available throughout by the end of the year.
