Tesco has introduced a new limited edition DVD and Blu-ray collection for Disney’s recent blockbuster film, Beauty and the Beast, in more than 400 stores across the UK.

Featuring 12 vinyl-sized sleeves, the new Big Sleeve Edition is a bid to revive customers' interest in DVDs and Blu-ray, according to Tesco.

The new collection includes movie discs and collectable art cards featuring characters and scenes from Beauty and the Beast.

Tesco entertainment category spokesman Rob Wilson said: “We believe Big Sleeves could be as effective in stimulating growth in DVD’s and Blu-ray as limited editions have been in reviving vinyl. 

“These formats look fantastic and have great collectability, as well as being perfect gifts. They really offer customers something different to digital and streaming versions.”

Tesco has already trialled the Big Sleeve Edition across selected stores in the UK.

The trial, which also included Doctor Strange, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and Finding Dory, garnered positive results for the new packaging format.

Tesco is also set to release a Big Sleeve Edition of Disney’s Guardians of The Galaxy 2.

The retailer currently operates more than 3,500 stores across the UK.
