Amcor gains RecyClass certification for UK-made flexible packaging

The certified portfolio covers NorDiVent, ventilated form-fill-seal (FFS) films used for cement, chemicals and minerals.

Amcor has obtained RecyClass Recycled Plastics Traceability Certification (EN15343) for a selection of flexible packaging made at its UK plants in Ardeer, Bromborough and Winsford.

The certified portfolio covers NorDiVent, ventilated form-fill-seal (FFS) films used for cement, powdered construction materials, chemicals and minerals.

It also includes shrink films, stretch hood films for pallet protection, and several FFS and flat film products containing post-consumer recycled (PCR) plastic.

The development comes before a change to the UK Plastic Packaging Tax (PPT) due in April 2027.

From then on, only PCR material will count towards the 30% recycled content threshold needed for a product to be exempt from the tax.

Post-industrial recycled content (PIR) and pre-consumer recycled content will no longer qualify towards that requirement.

RecyClass is a cross-sector scheme focused on the recyclability of plastic packaging. It provides independent verification of recycled content, requires traceability through production, and follows recognised European standards.

Beyond the UK, Amcor sites in Steinfeld, Germany; Hardenberg, the Netherlands; Roeselare and Zele, Belgium; and Zdzieszowice, Poland, have RecyClass accreditation for selected products.

The company said this supports a pan-European approach for international customers.

Amcor recycling operations in the UK and Europe link recycling, material development and packaging manufacturing in work related to PCR use in industrial and secondary flexible packaging.

Amcor recycling and government relations UK director Mike Baxter said: “As the use of recycled material increases across Europe, and regulations and specifications are further tightened, third‑party accreditation will play a vital role in ensuring the necessary transparency and consistency.

“This is why we are certifying both our sites and our products through recognised and respected bodies such as RecyClass.”

Recently, Amcor received cleanroom certification for its thermoforming plant in Carolina, Puerto Rico, US.
