The Association of Plastic Recyclers (APR) and Mexico’s National Association of Plastics Industries (ANIPAC) have entered a co-operation agreement focused on plastics recyclability, recycling design standards and circular economy development in Mexico.
The arrangement aims to support technical and work between the two bodies across the plastics chain.
These include packaging and product design, collection, recycling and the return of materials to the market.
Described as a non-profit organisation focused on plastics recycling in North America, APR will provide technical resources, training and design criteria aimed at improving the recyclability of packaging and supporting markets for post-consumer recycled material.
ANIPAC will bring industry representation spanning distributors, machinery makers, plastics converters, raw material suppliers, and recyclers.
It will also work on the uptake of international standards intended to improve the sector’s competitive position.
APR president and CEO Steve Alexander said collaboration among North American organisations is essential to advancing greater regional harmonisation in recyclability and the circular economy.
Alexander said: "Collaboration among organisations across North America is fundamental to strengthening recycling infrastructure, promoting common technical standards, and accelerating the transition toward more circular and sustainable models for plastics."
ANIPAC said the agreement also underlines its role in bringing together Mexico’s plastics value chain through work based on innovation, technical evidence and international co-operation.
Under the deal, the two organisations will exchange technical and regulatory information and develop joint projects.
They will also provide specialised training and promote design criteria intended to make plastic packaging and products easier to recycle in Mexico.
ANIPAC president Benjamín del Arco said: “This agreement represents a strategic step toward strengthening the competitiveness and sustainability of Mexico’s plastics industry.
"The adoption of international design for recyclability guidelines allows us to advance toward more efficient solutions aligned with market needs and current environmental challenges while providing greater technical certainty to all stakeholders across the value chain.”
