AUM Premium has revealed plans to bring paper-based water bottles to the Indian market by the end of the year, reported ET Chemical, part of The Economic Times.

The move is aimed at changing how packaging is used in the premium bottled water segment.

Operating under Bhagva Future Ventures, the company focuses on packaging sustainability.

Its new bottle will be made largely from responsibly sourced paper and will include a food-grade lining intended to maintain the quality of the water.

The new format is expected to cut the use of conventional plastic.

According to the report, the lighter bottle design may also help make transport more efficient and cut emissions linked to distribution.

AUM Premium has also entered a partnership with Scrapbuddy, a waste management start-up based in Delhi.

Under this arrangement, used bottles will be collected through a recycling programme that encourages consumers to return packaging for disposal and material recovery.

This effort is intended to limit waste sent to landfill and support a circular approach to packaging.

AUM Premium founder and CEO Jagriti Motwani said: “Our objective is to reduce unnecessary plastic wherever possible without compromising product quality. The paper-based bottle is one step in that direction, and we will continue exploring better alternatives as the technology evolves.”

AUM Premium said its water is sold in three stock keeping units and packaged at the source with limited processing.

The plan is to move over time towards bottles that are 100% free of plastic.
