Ball Corporation and Crown Holdings are moving ahead with separate aluminium beverage can manufacturing projects in Uttar Pradesh, India.

Ball Beverage Packaging India, the Indian arm of Ball Corporation, has chosen a site at the Integrated Manufacturing and Logistics Cluster in Meerut for an aluminium beverage can plant.

The proposed outlay for the project is Rs29.13bn ($305.1m).

The company has been granted incentives under Uttar Pradesh’s 2023 policy covering FDI/FCI, Fortune Global 500 and Fortune India 500 company investments. 

Separately, Crown Holdings has started construction of its first greenfield aluminium beverage can factory at IMLC in Unnao.

Crown’s project carries an investment of Rs20.78bn ($217.8m) and covers close to 40 acres at Plot No. 4 in the cluster.

The project is expected to generate more than 200 direct jobs and over 1,500 indirect roles in logistics, warehousing, transport, maintenance, supplier networks and related industries.

When the project was first announced in April 2026, the company said the two-line plant was scheduled to begin operations in the second half of 2027. At full output, it is expected to produce around 2.2 billion cans a year. 

The facility is intended to supply the Indian market for aluminium beverage cans in both alcoholic and non-alcoholic categories. 

The project has long-term customer commitments, including a partnership with United Breweries, part of Heineken.
