Austria’s Dunapack Packaging has reached a deal with Stora Enso to acquire its corrugated packaging businesses in Germany.

The agreement covers Gaster Wellpappe, Wellpappe Sausenheim and PTI, as well as their sites in south-west Germany.

These operations have 350 employees and recorded €74m in revenue in 2025.

The deal still requires merger approval and is expected to be completed this year.

Dunapack Packaging chairman Max Hölbl said: “We are excited to serve our existing and new customers with the best of our proven service quality by benefitting from our integrated business model with the Hamburger Containerboard division. The expertise of our new colleagues will be a great addition, and we are looking forward to welcoming them to our group.”

Dunapack Packaging is part of the Prinzhorn Group, a family-owned business based in Vienna. The group has more than 10,000 employees across 16 countries and an annual revenue of €2.4bn.

Prinzhorn Group CEO Gerald Prinzhorn commented: “The transaction marks a further important step in the growth strategy of Dunapack Packaging, aiming to increase its geographical footprint and will additionally foster our paper integration rate within the Group.”

Prinzhorn Group operates through three divisions: Dunapack Packaging, which makes corrugated packaging; Hamburger Containerboard, which produces corrugated case materials; and Hamburger Recycling, which handles the collection and trade of secondary raw materials.

In January, Stora Enso expanded its suite of carton board products with the launch of Performa Lumi, a new GC1 folding boxboard (FBB).

The product is manufactured at the company’s BM6 packaging facility in Oulu, Finland, and extends the existing Performa range, which includes Performa Nova.
