Indorama Ventures and REBHAN FPS Kunststoff-Verpackungen have jointly developed a polyethylene terephthalate (PET)-based packaging material for beauty and personal care products.

The collaboration pairs Indorama Ventures’ work in speciality PET resins with REBHAN’s packaging development and production capabilities.

Their joint offering, LUXYCLEAR EBM PET 5508, is intended for premium cosmetics packaging.

Indorama Ventures speciality polymers business director Patrick Amrhein said: “Beauty brands should not have to choose between premium design, packaging performance and greater material choice.

“By combining LUXYCLEAR EBM PET 5508 with REBHAN’s design and manufacturing expertise, we are giving brands a commercially practical route to create distinctive, glass-like PET packaging using conventional, chemically recycled or renewable-feedstock options.”

Made for extrusion blow moulding, the PET grade supports the production of thick-wall bottles with a clear, transparent finish that resembles glass while keeping the advantages of PET, including lower weight, durability and resistance to breakage.

In addition to a standard virgin PET version, LUXYCLEAR EBM PET 5508 is offered in grades containing up to 100% chemically recycled content, as well as an option based on mass-balanced certified renewable feedstock.

These variants aim to reduce dependence on virgin fossil-based inputs without changing the material’s clarity, performance or quality.

The product is commercially available to beauty and personal care companies in Europe, the Americas and Asia.

REBHAN sales and product management head Patrick Kohns said: “In the beauty and personal care sectors, brands are increasingly turning to our glass-like bottles because they combine the elegant look of glass with the functional advantages of PET.

"Our solutions offer luxurious transparency, brilliant clarity and modern designs that immediately grab attention at the point of sale, while also being cost-effective, lightweight and perfectly suited for everyday use.”

Last month, Indorama Ventures teamed up with Suntory Holdings, Suntory PepsiCo Beverage (Thailand) and Iwatani to develop commercial-scale circular PET packaging in Thailand via its packaging unit, Indovida.
