Berger Pains subsidiary Jenson & Nicholson Packaging has entered a land lease with the Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority (BEZA) to invest $13.7m in a new manufacturing plant.

The factory will span 6.34 acres in the National Special Economic Zone.

The project by Jenson & Nicholson Packaging is projected to create jobs for approximately 600 people.

The planned unit will produce rigid plastic pails, industrial paints, food-grade packaging, and metal packaging.

The move aims to support the backward integration of Berger Paints' manufacturing operations in Bangladesh.

At the signing event, BEZA officials noted that Berger Paints has already received a 40-acre allocation within the same economic zone. Commercial production there is expected to start within the next two months.

Jenson & Nicholson Packaging director Rupali Haque Chowdhury said the investment would strengthen the country's manufacturing sector through environmentally friendly and tech-driven industrialisation.

In another industrial development in Bangladesh last year, Valmet received its first order from Papertech Industries for a comprehensive automation package. The deal includes the country's first distributed control system with the modern Valmet DNAe User Interface.

Separately, Unilever Bangladesh introduced a sustainability-focused packaging initiative last year. The company rolled out the URefill initiative, featuring a machine intended to reduce plastic waste, according to the Financial Express.

The URefill machine was designed to dispense liquid products, with the goal of reducing plastic waste and encouraging sustainable consumer habits.
