The facility is set to become one of the world’s most significant advanced recycling operations, with a capacity to process approximately 90,000 tons of waste plastic annually.

Freepoint managing director Jeff McMahon said: “This investment in advanced recycling will promote economic growth in Hebron and strengthen Ohio’s position as a leader in sustainable innovation and technology.

“We are excited by the progress to date and look forward to sharing future updates with the Hebron community.”

The ISCC PLUS Certified facility spans 25 acres and utilises an existing 260,000ft² warehouse, to recycle waste plastic that would otherwise be destined for landfills or incineration.

ISCC PLUS, a certification body, supports the circular economy across various sectors, including plastics, packaging, and chemicals.

The facility will convert end-of-life waste plastic into feedstock using pyrolysis technology.

The project has generated 200 construction jobs and will create 100 full-time circular economy jobs once operational.

McMahon added: “We’re grateful for the tremendous support and patience of the community as we push toward completion of the facility.”

The company’s first ‘super load’ truck delivery arrived on 11 March 2024, and three additional super load trucks are expected soon.

These deliveries are said to be crucial for the facility’s progress.
