Plastic milk bottle producer Nampak Plastics has announced that there was a 79% increase in the recycling of high density polyethylene (HDPE) plastic milk bottles in the UK in 2012.

A survey conducted by Recoup Recycling found that around 316,054t of plastic bottles were collected for recycling in 2012, of which around 96,396t were HDPE milk bottles.

The companies will work together to increase collection levels of plastic bottles in 2014 while awaiting the 2013 survey results.

Nampak claims that its Infini bottles contain up to 30% recycled HDPE, which is twice that of any other plastic bottle on the market.

Nampak Plastics managing director Eric Collins noted the company’s continued progress in the plastic packaging sector.

"At Nampak we strive to ensure not only our bottles, but also our manufacturing processes, are providing the most sustainable solution possible," Collins said.

Recoup Recycling technical manager Steve Morgan said that the company is working with its partner Nampak towards achieving UK plastic packaging recycling targets.

"Recoup celebrates the continued and increasing success of milk bottle recycling in the UK, however, there is more that can be done," Morgan added.
