The Jamaican government is ready to execute the ‘Recycle Now Jamaica’ project with an investment of over $200m in a polyethylene terephthalate (PET) bottle recycling plant.
The investment will be made over the next three years for the recycling project, with $50m pumped in by the government annually.

Under the Jamaica Emergency Employment Programme, the project will be undertaken through a public-private partnership (PPP). Approximately $23.75m will come from private sector annually.
Jamaica Minister of Transport, Works and Housing Dr Omar Davies said that private firms will be involved in building the facility, called the Consolidation and Logistics Hub.
The facility, which will be used to consolidate and super compact used PET bottles, will house a baling line, office spaceand a storage facility for finished products.
In order to ease the PET collection process, the government has agreed to provide four satellite depots in key locations throughout the nation. Reclaimed PET waste will be collected by certified JEEP collectors from the depots.

By GlobalDataThe depots will focus on receiving 15% of total waste in the first year of the project, with a target of one million bottles a day. The scope of the project also includes organising a national awareness and public education campaign, with a special focus on reaching schools.
The government aims to retrieve 35% of PET bottles placed on the market over the first three years of the Recycle Now Jamaica project.
