UK-based scrap plastic trader GFSL will open a new mixed rigid plastic waste recycling facility at the Wilton International estate in Redcar.
The new facility will have a designed annual processing capacity of around 20,000t of mixed rigid plastics, including polypropylene, polyethylene and polyvinyl chloride.

The rigid plastics processed at the facility will be used to create regrinds for use in the manufacturing of a range of plastic products comprising plastic furniture, pipes and pallets.
Currently going through the testing phase, GFSL’s new recycling facility is expected to become fully operational by March.
GFSL director Martin Robb said that the company will collect feedstock from civic amenity sites, skips, waste management firms and other suppliers in the UK and Ireland.
"The fully automated technology has been configured in a way that has not yet been done, and this will enable us to recover the three main streams from the mix – PVC, PE and PP as individual regrind fractions," Robb added.

The project will create 17 jobs in the short term and add another ten as production ramps up, according to the company.
GFSL purchases and sells a wide variety of scrap plastics from waste management and recycling companies.
