Weidenhammer UK, a subsidiary of Germany-based Weidenhammer Packaging Group (WPG), has opened its £10m production facility in Bradford, England.

Construction at the 11,000m² facility, which was taken over from US-based JV partner Chesapeake Packagin in 2009, was completed in July and since then production of composite cans has been taking place.

The company also plans to launch the production of high-quality plastic packaging based on in-mould labelling technology in Bradford early next year.

In the past three years, annual production of WPG rose by 400% from 12 million composite cans to around 60 million, increasing its turnover from £2.5m to a projected £11m in 2012.
