Global producer of biaxially oriented polypropylene (BOPP) and cellulose films Innovia and Sappi Fine Paper Europe have joined forces to test the potential of laminate structures, using their respective products.

The laminates, which are made from renewable resources, offer compostability and are suitable for end users in the food, confectionery and pharmaceutical industries, the companies claim.

The companies have started trials with converters to demonstrate the capabilities of the laminates in terms of sustainability and technical packaging solutions.

Innovia Films will launch its NatureFlex product range, while Sappi is set to unveil its coated and uncoated compostable paper options Algro Nature and Leine Nature.

John Fell, Innovia Films global marketing director, said both companies will announce future developments of sustainable packaging solutions based on renewable and recyclable forest products as soon as they become available.
