India’s Zydus Lifesciences has teamed up with Swiss packaging company SIG to launch its liquid cough and cold medicine in single-serve spouted pouches.

Zydus’ cough medicine Deriphyllin CoughGo will be offered in 5ml and 10ml ready-to-drink sachets, referred to as siplets.

The packs use SIG’s tethered spout system, called SIG StrawCap 30 Linked, with the company’s SIG Motion Servo 3.2 filling technology.

Liquid cough and cold preparations are typically sold in multi-dose bottles, which can make accurate dosing difficult and result in unused medicine being discarded once it expires.

Zydus’ shift to portioned, single-use packs is aimed at tackling these issues by providing a fixed dose in a portable format that does not break easily.

The new packs are designed to lower the risk of contamination and remove the need for dosing aids such as spoons or syringes, making them easier to use outside the home.

SIG StrawCap 30 Linked is a tethered closure with an integrated straw intended to allow patients to consume the medicine directly from the pouch without additional devices.

It uses three times less plastic than a traditional pouch cap, while the tethered feature keeps the cap attached to the pack.

The solution is planned to be paired in future with SIG Terra RecShield film, which is fully designed for recycling.

SIG India, Middle East and Africa president and general manager Abdelghany Eladib stated: “Single-serve spouted pouches for pre-portioned pharmaceutials, such as cough syrup, position us as frontrunners in the industry and represent a significant advancement in both patient comfort and safety.”

Zydus Lifesciences managing director Sharvil Patel stated: “Our goal at Zydus is to make effective medication more accessible and consumer-friendly. Continuing with our patient-centric approaches, we are introducing Deriphyllin CoughGo in single-serve spouted pouches utilising SIG’s advanced filling technology.”

In November 2025, SIG appointed Mikko Keto as its next CEO. His arrival is expected in the first half of 2026.
