TRICOR Packaging & Logistics’ new heavy-duty corrugated board facility is located in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany.

The site features the latest German production and handling systems, including fully automated internal transport and two automated storage areas.

TRICOR’s board announced plans to establish the plant in April 2023. Construction of the facility, which started in February 2024, involved an investment of approximately €170m.

The plant commenced operations in July 2025 and created more than 200 jobs.

The new plant aims to enhance the European packaging supply chain by improving delivery times and offering a wider variety of packaging solutions.

Location

TRICOR’s heavy-duty corrugated plant is located in the Weeze/Goch area of North Rhine-Westphalia, western Germany, close to the Dutch border, making it a strategically advantageous site.

TRICOR bought a 166,000m² (1.7 million square feet) plot of land in the area, with project financing provided by its Japanese parent company, Rengo.

TRICOR heavy-duty corrugated plant details

The facility spans approximately 166,000m², with a floor area of around 54,000m², including a main hall of around 44,000m².

Its layout includes manufacturing equipment, automated material-handling systems, high-bay storage and process control systems.

It is designed for the manufacture and distribution of industrial and heavy corrugated board and box products, with a planned output of 140,000 tonnes (t) of heavy corrugated board per annum.

The heavy corrugated materials and large packaging produced at this site will serve various sectors including chemicals, food and automotive.

Equipment installed

The facility is designed to produce both heavy-duty and standard corrugated board and is equipped with fully automated production lines, including a corrugator operating at 450m per minute with a working width of 2.8m.

The facility is also equipped with rotary and flatbed die-cutters, as well as Jumbo inliners offering working widths from 3.2m to 6.5m for the processing of heavy corrugated board.

Two high-bay warehouses store semi-finished and finished products and support the use of the production lines. The new facility also features a fully automated internal transport system.

In addition, automated robotic lines are used to produce the company’s Quick Bin and Quick Box ranges.

Sustainable features

TRICOR’s new manufacturing facility is built to meet stringent energy efficiency standards, minimising the need for heating during colder months and cooling in warmer periods.

The facility aligns with the broader goal of achieving global carbon neutrality by 2050, with a strong focus on reducing environmental impact.

To meet its power requirements, the site features a 3.3MW solar photovoltaic installation and four cogeneration units.
