Tata Steel Nederland reports that its TCCT-Protact approach satisfies food safety requirements by removing the need for an extra lacquer layer during customer processing.

The TCCT technology was developed exclusively by Tata Steel Nederland.

The company also supplies this technology to other steel producers across Europe.

Tata Steel highlighted steel packaging as a top sustainable choice, with more than 95% recycling in the Netherlands.

The company further outlined that steel fosters a circular economy for items such as food and aerosol cans. It also offers an extended shelf life as its magnetic properties simplify waste sorting.

Tata Steel Nederland packaging manager Arne Hoogervorst said: “Our TCCT technology enables sustainable production of packaging steel and ensures compliance with future chemical-use legislation (REACH). This is not only good news for the environment but also for our employees, as it makes work safer.

“Combined with Protact (polymer-coated packaging steel), TSN offers an eco-friendly solution that meets the strictest food safety standards and simplifies the customer’s production process: no extra lacquer layer is needed. This means lower costs, fewer chemicals, and a shorter supply chain. Together with our customers, we innovate for a more efficient, safer, and environmentally friendly future.”

Tata Steel Nederland operates through two main business units: Tata Steel Ijmuiden, which houses its primary manufacturing facilities; and Tata Steel Downstream Europe, where further processing for various applications takes place at multiple sites across the region.
