The Evolution E5 model features six colours and a 17in (430mm) web width.

It is equipped with LED/UV curing technology, “chilled” impression rolls, and an overhead rail for future converting attachments.

The machine also includes a rewind system designed for roll-to-roll processing.

With a top speed of 228m per minute, the new press is set to more than double the company’s previous production rates and “significantly” reduce material waste during multi-colour print runs.

Mark Andy sales manager Antony Cotton commented: “This investment marks the beginning of a new era for Viscose Closures in terms of six-colour production capability at high speed with much reduced operating costs, and highlights what the latest technology has to offer in terms of efficiency and sustainability.

“And the beauty of the Mark Andy Evolution series is its ability to be upgraded with additional print or converting units at any time, making it as near future-proof as it’s possible to be with print technology.”

Viscose Closures will use the Evolution E5 for its heat-shrink product lines, which include cut bands, open top capsules, and reel-fed tubing.

Materials processed on the new press include recyclable PET, 30% recycled-content RPET, and compostable PLA.

Compared with its solvent-based predecessor, the LED ink-compatible press consumes less energy and requires less maintenance.

It will cater to different industries such as food and drink, health supplements, cosmetics, and pharmaceuticals.

Viscose Closures anticipates that the new press will broaden its printed sleeve offerings for current clients and support its entry into additional markets, including nutritional beverages.

Viscose operations head Stephen Armstrong said: “We started looking for a new press in 2024 and were particularly impressed with Mark Andy’s attention to detail in the tendering process.

“Nothing was too much trouble for them as they guided us through the technicalities and customised the press for our specific requirements. Having a UK base with a strong service commitment was another key factor, and I cannot praise too highly the entire process from quote to installation.”

In 2024, self-adhesive paper and film products provider UPM Raflatac renewed its partnership with Mark Andy.

The partnership is focused on delivering sustainable label printing solutions to the global market.
