Cosmetics packaging company Baralan has introduced a “Rethink Strategy” to adapt its product range and operating processes to changing environmental expectations and regulatory requirements, according to a press release posted on WhatTheyThink.

The plan aims to bring together sustainability, product performance and compliance considerations across its global offering.

The strategy is being introduced against a backdrop of new European rules and wider scrutiny of packaging’s environmental effects.

Baralan said it is intended to respond to the main pressures reshaping cosmetic packaging and to help brands and business partners move towards solutions with technical, design and environmental considerations.

Measures in the plan include reducing material weight and the use of virgin raw materials, as well as developing components to facilitate end-of-life treatment, with a particular focus on glass products and plastic accessories.

Baralan is increasing the use of materials that fit existing recycling processes and working on options designed to simplify multi-material packaging.

In parallel, the company is carrying out technical reviews, substance screening, regulatory documentation and supply chain traceability work to match changes in European and international packaging rules.

Baralan’s product development work includes single-material formats, the gradual use of post-consumer recycled (PCR) content in plastic and glass, refillable or rechargeable formats, and the use of Design for Recycling (DfR) principles in new products.

The company sustainability plan covers compliance management for primary packaging, with a focus on greater supply chain transparency and alignment with developing international standards.

It is also preparing internal frameworks for checking environmental claims, gathering technical records and meeting the requirements of major global markets.

Baralan said the initiative sits within an environmental, social, and governance (ESG) roadmap introduced in recent years and expanded through environmental monitoring, impact assessments, dedicated key performance indicators (KPIs) and supply chain engagement.

Baralan chief business officer Caroline Baranes said: “Sustainability is now a central element in the development of cosmetic packaging and requires a concrete, structured, and technically feasible approach.

“Our goal is to develop solutions that combine innovation, functionality, quality, and regulatory compliance, supporting brands in a market increasingly focused on environmental responsibility.”
