Herma has unveiled its Linerless Plus (400) label material and multi-layer 62Dps pressure-sensitive adhesive, as it seeks to cut packaging waste and disposal costs.

The German company said the material’s multi-layer construction supports adhesion and more efficient processing while the adhesive’s two-layer structure prevents adhesive “bleeding”.

It described the adhesive as delivering “very high” initial and final adhesion, with dependable performance at low temperatures.

Herma added that the combination of Linerless Plus (400) with 62Dps improves process reliability and gives users greater flexibility in roll design and layout, as no adhesive-free zones are required.

The adhesive also enables longer cleaning intervals for linerless printers by reducing contamination of cutting mechanisms. It also offers resistance to ageing, heat and light.

According to Herma, labels made from the material can run on all standard linerless label printers currently on the market, allowing adoption without further investment.

The material is coated on a 1.000mm web width and is available with a minimum order quantity of 2,000m².

Herma silicone development head Markus Mateescu said: “Linerless labels also play an important role in effectively helping to conserve resources and prevent waste.

“Against this backdrop, Herma Linerless Plus, in combination with the 62Dps pressure-sensitive adhesive, opens up new and more sustainable applications for linerless labels.”

The launch follows another recent expansion of Herma’s self-adhesive materials portfolio.

Earlier this month, the company introduced the Essential Line, which provides label printers a more economical choice for price-sensitive standard applications.

The range covers paper-based and film-based self-adhesive label materials for routine uses such as food packaging, cosmetic products and shipping cartons.
