Mondi has collaborated with furniture maker Büromodel to optimise its packaging for shipping acoustic office cabins across Europe and beyond.

According to the packaging company, the furniture producer had been using wooden crates made in-house, but this approach was causing operational and logistics problems.

Sea shipments had also led to mould problems, which affected product condition and delivery reliability.

In response, Mondi and Büromodel developed a corrugated alternative for the specific demands of moving acoustic office cabins.

The new format is intended to protect the product while removing the mould problems linked to wooden crates in sea freight.

Büromodel procurement manager Sinan Müsellim said: “Moving away from wooden packaging was a strategic decision for us. Mondi’s team understood our operational requirements and worked with us to find a solution we could trust across different markets. That confidence in the packaging is just as important as the efficiency gains.”

Mondi noted that the revised packaging is quicker and simpler to put together, which has reduced labour intensity and made packing operations more efficient.

The company added that it also fits into Büromodel’s existing production and logistics set-up without requiring additional capital spending.

According to the company, the switch has reduced operational packing costs by about 20% through lower material and process expenses.

Büromodel also reported time savings, decreased physical handling demands, improved workplace safety from removing heavy wooden crates, and better logistics performance through stackable packaging and more efficient use of storage space.

Mondi Turkey corrugated sales and marketing director Metin Morhayim said: “This project shows what is possible when packaging is treated as part of the customer’s operation, not just a protective layer. By working closely with Büromodel, we were able to design a solution that fits their processes and supports their business needs.”
