UFlex has started operations at its first woven polypropylene (WPP) bag manufacturing site outside India, with a new facility in Mexico.
The company invested $52m in the plant, which covers ten acres in Altamira.

The site forms part of its wider international expansion and adds to its manufacturing footprint in the Americas.
According to UFlex, the plant was built to international standards for engineering, efficiency and sustainability.
It uses European equipment and runs through low-noise and emission-free processes aligned with the company’s environmental, sustainability and governance (ESG) framework.
The facility includes a recycling unit and a zero solid waste discharge system aimed at improving material recovery, reducing waste and supporting disposal processes.
UFlex said the plant can produce 80 million WPP bags a year, supplying demand for industrial packaging products across the Americas.
The bags made at the site are designed for higher strength and use laser venting technology intended to let air out while blocking mites from entering.
They also use hot-air sealing technology that can be adjusted for different bag sizes and specifications.
The plant also contains a converting unit that uses water-based inks and can run at speeds of up to 300 metres per minute.
An on-site quality and environmental control laboratory has been set up to monitor product consistency and environmental compliance.
UFlex flexible packaging and new product development president Jeevaraj Gopal Pillai said: “The commissioning of our WPP packaging plant in Mexico represents a strategic step in expanding our global manufacturing network and strengthening our presence in the Americas.
“The new facility will enable us to deliver innovative, high-quality packaging solutions closer to our customers, ensure shorter turnaround times, and support the evolving sustainability and performance needs of the region’s fast-growing pet food industry.”
Last month, UFlex received an Indian patent for a reclosable packaging format for large bags. The packaging is intended for products such as chemicals, coffee, flour, pet food, protein powders, raw materials and other industrial goods.
