Bower Collective has teamed up with UK-based biomaterials company Kelpi to introduce a paper sachet for liquid products, using a bio-based coating made from renewably sourced seaweed.
The launch involves a sample box containing three 5ml sachets of Bower Collective hand wash in Orange Blossom & Mimosa, Pistachio & Vanilla, and Wild Peach.

These will be sent to customers to test before buying full-size versions.

Kelpi’s coating gives the paper a water-resistant barrier that allows it to contain liquid without a lining made from fossil fuel-derived plastic.
Production and filling were handled by Guardpack, described as the UK’s longest-established sachet and wet wipe producer.
Its existing sachet-filling lines were used without equipment changes.
The sachet can be placed in household paper recycling and is intended to biodegrade safely in the natural environment if discarded there.
Kelpi CEO Hugo Adams said: “Liquids are the hardest packaging challenge in paper, which is exactly why this launch matters. Bower Collective have given us the perfect first home for proving our coating can hold a liquid formulation reliably, while staying genuinely recyclable and fossil fuel plastic-free.”
Last month, Kelpi received food contact clearance from the US Food and Drug Administration for its seaweed-based packaging coating.
The decision permits the coating to be used on paper and board food packaging sold in the US.
