Cascades has introduced a fully recycled and recyclable substrate named Cascades lithoURB, designed for lithographic print applications on corrugated boxes and folding cartons.

The material retains the visual appearance of unbleached recycled board while accommodating graphic reproduction, the packaging manufacturer said in a statement.

Positioned as an alternative to virgin fibre grades, the board is intended to facilitate circular resource usage without diminishing print definition, mechanical strength, or conversion efficiency.

The substrate is directed at food processors, drinks makers, agricultural producers, and consumer goods companies, particularly those marketing goods with organic, ethical, or environmental claims.

Containers manufactured from Cascades lithoURB can secure FSC Mix or 100% recycled certification, comply with BRCGS food safety criteria, and carry How2Recycle pre-qualification for recyclability.

Cascades president and CEO Hugues Simon said: “Cascades lithoURB provides our customers with eco-friendly packaging—a key factor when choosing products in stores. By meeting market demand for sustainable products, Cascades strives to maintain its position as a leader in sustainability.”

Cascades packaging sector executive vice-president Jean-David Tardif commented: “This new paper reaffirms our position as a partner of choice by adding a premium paper solution that enables us to create distinctive packaging and helps our customers stand out in the North American market.”

Formed in 1964, Cascades operates across the packaging, hygiene, and recovery sectors.

The business employs around 9,000 staff across 60 North American facilities and trades on the Toronto Stock Exchange under the symbol CAS.

Earlier this year, Cascades allocated C$6.9m ($5m) to upgrade its Papier Kingsey Falls uncoated recycled boxboard plant to increase production capacity and product quality.
