DS Smith Plastics has opened a new rigid packaging manufacturing facility in Romeoville, Illinois, US.

The company currently operates six flexible packaging manufacturing sites in North America and the new facility is its first rigid packaging manufacturing operation in the region.

DS Smith Plastics has invested in the new facility to address the growing demand for rigid packaging products in the US.

The Illinois plant will serve the automotive and pharmaceutical markets by manufacturing polypropylene bubble-structure sheets that are used in graphics, sleeves and single-use and reusable packaging.

Scheduled to begin operations in the last quarter of this year, the facility is also expected to create new job opportunities.
