Plastic recycling charity Recoup led cross-industry group has agreed to undertake new actions to facilitate the recycling of black plastic packaging.
The collaboration includes various members across the supply chain such as packaging manufacturers, brands, retailers, trade associations and independent specialists.

The group has developed a Black Plastic Packaging Recycling Roadmap and agreed to introduce tried-and-tested detectable pigment.
It will also develop new technical solutions to sort existing black plastic packaging material and identify opportunities to convert existing packaging to an alternative colour from black.
The initiatives are expected to facilitate recycling of black plastics by enabling faster product collection and sorting, reducing waste and improving resource efficiency.
They will also expedite the development of sustainable solutions that can be accepted by all members of the supply and recycling chain.

The group will work to assess the impact of black plastic packaging items and encourage members to develop reprocessing solutions.
It will also evaluate the feasibility of other coloured plastics and alternate sorting solutions.
The group is again expected to meet in the upcoming weeks to discuss the ongoing developments and devise future objectives.
