UK-based McLaren Packaging has announced a £3m investment to construct a new facility for its Blue Box Design subsidiary at Broadleys Business Park in Stirling, Scotland.

Commenced last month, construction of the 20,000ft² manufacturing, design and testing centre is estimated to be completed by next April.

The site and construction of the new facility are designed to allow subsequent extension into two additional modules to enable increased floor space in the future.

The expansion is intended to allow McLaren to meet the increasing demand for luxury hand-finished presentation boxes.

“Our overall aim is to increase McLaren Packaging’s turnover to £20m by 2020 and this facility will make a strong contribution to achieving that goal.”

Expected to create new shop floor operator and office-based staff jobs over four years, the centre is planned to integrate environment-friendly solutions such as PV solar, electric car charging points, and high-insulation levels.

McLaren Packaging managing director Donald McLaren said: “The investment in Blue Box Design’s new-build unit demonstrates the importance of our Stirling operation and our long-term commitment to the future of luxury rigid boxes within our product portfolio.

Blue Box Design managing director Duncan Robertson added: “This new facility will greatly improve speed to market for our customers by reducing the packaging development cycle time from concept to delivery, thereby delivering production efficiencies and cost savings.”

McLaren acquired Blue Box in 2013, which designs and manufactures presentation boxes for the food, beverage and luxury industries in the country.

Currently, the subsidiary operates from 8,000ft2 Stirling premises with 30 employees and £1.4m annual revenues.
