Dutch pharmaceutical contract packaging organisation Tjoapack is to strengthen its blistering capabilities by adding its eighth line, which is expected to bring late-stage customisation printing benefits.

Tjoapack said the line will be operational at its facility in Etten-Leur, Netherlands, by the end of the third quarter of this year.

The company said in a statement: “At Tjoapack we are committed to ensuring our customers continue to receive the efficient and flexible service that they are used to, so we are always looking for ways to further improve our operations to allow us to better cater for their projects.

“We have a strategic growth plan in place and increasing our blistering capacity will allow us to cater for increasing demand from both current and new customers.”

The investment will also enable the company to expand its existing postponement printing offering and include drop-on-demand digital printing services for blisters.

According to Tjoapack, late-stage customisation offers certain advantages to the pharmaceutical supply chain as it reduces waste from repackaging, overall costs and time to market.

The company stated: “We have started to explore this type of packaging with some of our customers already and as more complex molecules continue to enter the drug pipeline, demand for last-minute packaging is likely to increase.

“This investment will allow us to futureproof our lines for projected demands.”

Established in 1989, the company is engaged in primary packaging for solid dosage forms, secondary packaging and unit dose packaging.

Operating a total of 19 packaging lines for blisters, wallets and bottles, the company caters to the demands of clients across five continents and 42 countries.
