US plastic containers and closures manufacturer Pretium Packaging is set to expand its Carrollton facilities in Texas, and Aurora, Illinois, to meet increased customer demand.

The Texas plant will be expanded by 52,000ft², allowing the company to add polyethylene terephthalate (PET) bottle production lines to a facility that was previously solely engaged in the production of high-density polyethylene containers.

The company is also nearing completion of a 54,000ft² expansion of the Aurora, Illinois plant, which is aimed at providing additional manufacturing and warehousing space.

Pretium Packaging sales and marketing senior vice-president Mark Howell said: “The expansion will enable us to produce PET bottles in a facility that is closer to brand owner filling operations.

“By shifting our production, we will be able to shorten delivery times, as well as reduce our transportation carbon footprint. With brand owners wanting to shorten the supply chain timeline, this is one way we can help them meet their objectives.”

The Texas expansion project will see the phasing out of the company’s Walterboro, South Carolina facility and redeployment of PET production lines to the Texas plant.

The company is undertaking the expansion of the Aurora site for the second time in the past two years.

Howell added: “Centrally located in the Midwest, our Aurora plant serves a geographic area where a significant number of filling operations are positioned. Our expansion there will provide a solid footprint to help their future growth.”

Established in 1992, Pretium operates more than 300 production lines at 17 manufacturing facilities across North America.

Each year, the company produces around two billion PET and HDPE units.
