Glass packaging company Piramal Glass has partnered with technology major Microsoft to deploy its Azure IoT platform in a move to digitally transform its manufacturing operations.
The company has implemented Real-Time Manufacturing Insights (RTMI) solution across 46 production lines at four plants located in Kosamba and Jambusar, India, Sri Lanka, and the US.

According to the company, the four facilities together have 12 furnaces and 60 production lines with a capacity to produce 1,375t per day.
Microsoft used Azure IoT Hub to assist Piramal Glass to identify quality parameters at each production stage through data acquired from sensors on production lines as well as to gain insights on line efficiencies.
The packaging firm has experienced improved production efficiency and up to 70% cost reduction when compared to its current glass industry manufacturing execution system (MES).
