Canadian artisanal brewery Lagabière has deployed the G1 applicator from multi-packing solutions firm WaveGrip in a move to double its canning production over the next few years.

The G1 applicator can offer a maximum speed of 100 cans-per-minute (cpm), allowing the brewery to improve its manufacturing process to run the can production at a level of 35cpm to 45cpm.

The brewery will use the G1 applicator as a sustainable solution to produce its beer cans.

Lagabière co-founder Sébastien Laganière said: “Moving from our previous clip solutions for cans has made a tremendous difference to the multi-packing of our four-packs.

“With over 90% of our production in cans, improving on our efficiencies and having the ability to run at even faster speeds in the future, means our aim to double our output is definitely on track.”

RPC Group subsidiary WaveGrip said that the G1 applicator can produce cans with a weight of less than 4g for a standard six-pack. The company also claimed that its carriers are 100% recyclable and meet current US packaging regulations.

“Improving on our efficiencies and having the ability to run at even faster speeds in the future, means our aim to double our output is definitely on track.”

WaveGrip managing director Aaron McIvor said: “The G1 is designed to meet the needs of craft and artisan brewers and we are delighted that Lagabière has installed the first WaveGrip applicator in Canada.

“Its combination of multi-packing efficiency and the sustainability of the WaveGrip carrier are proving to be a real attraction across the whole of North America, helping breweries maximise their production output and minimise their environmental impact.”

Based in Quebec, Canada, Lagabière offers beers on-site. It also opened a larger brewery over the years to accommodate production of beer in cans and kegs for Canada and European markets.

The company’s product portfolio features six beers, including India Pale Ale Ta Meilleure and Ta Plus Meilleure.
