Spread across 450,000ft² of space, the facility features modern equipment to produce corrugated packaging.

It has an annual production capacity of 2.4 billion square feet and will enable the company to increase its internal integration of parent roll production.

Cascades president and CEO Mario Plourde said: “The inauguration of this significant investment highlights our commitment to both the modernisation of our asset base and the consolidation of our containerboard and packaging activities in the Northeastern US.

“It also represents a continuation of the important projects that we have carried out in recent years, including the Greenpac Mill in New York State and the Oregon tissue converting facility.

Cascades Containerboard Packaging president and chief operating officer Charles Malo said that the Piscataway plant will allow the company to manufacture lighter packaging products to serve both traditional and e-commerce markets.

Cascades operates 90 production facilities across North America and Europe, and produces a range of solutions for packaging, hygiene and recovery needs.

In December, the company acquired Urban Forest Products plant in Brook, Indiana, and Clarion Packaging plant in Clarion, Iowa, to double the production capacity of its ecological packaging manufactured in moulded pulp.
